Dropping DepositFiles. What should we replace it with?

It’s kind of really rare that I have to post a blog post giving you guys bad news. But I guess there’s little I can do to avoid that, sometimes.

As most of you are aware, by now, DepositFiles has been broken for a while now. We’ve been trying a lot of stuff on the back end, but so far we haven’t really managed to come up with a solution that should work efficiently.

For those who love information – DepositFiles initially broke because they added a captcha to their login page. Now if this were a normal captcha, we’d probably be able to bypass it. However, it’s not. It’s ReCaptcha. And for those of you who’ve dealt with it, you’ll know how much ReCaptcha can screw with your eyes sometimes. We’ve tried a lot of different approaches to deal with this issue. Quite a few of those approaches were also recommended to us by our members.

Unfortunately, nothing has turned out to be satisfactory. None of the solutions are long lasting or largely automated. The ones that *might* work, will require manual intervention for the most part. And that, we believe, will just end up being a source of added frustration for our users. The entire thing will then become counter productive; exactly what we don’t want.

So we’ve come to a decision – drop DepositFiles. Now if this is any consolation, we’ll add a replacement host. Which one we add, depends on which one you guys vote for. So vote away. I’ve added a poll below. Feel free to cast your vote and if you’d like to comment, well you can do that too :)

I have no problem with DepositFiles being dropped. I’m not sure that I ever even used it.

As far as these new hosts go, I haven’t seen any of them pop up enough to make a big difference but Wupload seems to be the best of those for me. As long as you keep Fileserve, FileSonic, Rapidshare, and Megaupload going then you will probably be covering most of the market with just those four anyway.

Appreciate the response :) I haven’t seen the ones I’ve offered for choice being used a lot, either. However, I had to recommend a few to start off with and I figured I’d pick the best out of the recent ones that have popped up.

I vote for Wupload or DuckLoad =]

Wupload seems to be winning at the moment. DuckLoad, unfortunately, no longer exists. The site was taken down, permanently, in a raid a few days earlier. A lot of other sites went down too. Duckload was one of them!

    Oron would be nice :)

    Hamza (250 comments) Reply:

As mentioned before, unfortunately, Oron cannot be added because it is not practical to add Oron. They have a teeny limit on daily bandwidth for premium users (5gb/day). That’s simply not enough :(

    Charles (2 comments) Reply:

If Oron ever changes their system to be suitable for Rapidpremium, that would be one that I would really like to see as well. They are really terrible for free users in my opinion and I run into Oron links more than I’d like.

Them changing their system is quite a fat chance as apparently their current system seems to work well for them. But if they indeed do, then yes, we’ll most definitely add support for the site.

None of those are really popping out as a front runner for me. How about just leave the gap void until a new popular filehost turns up just like hotfile/fileserve and filesonic has in the past year and then proceed with an answer to that question.
But if I had no absolute choice but to pick, it’ll be wupload. I’m seeing more and more of that one everyday.

Well, we could leave the gap void, but I figured I’d offer up these ones for choice as a compensation (of sorts) for having to drop DepositFiles.

Votes seem to be going for WUpload at the moment, and I’m not surprised to be honest. WUpload is basically a Filesonic spin off (the same technical backend), so they’ve been aggressively advertising their affiliate system.

I still prefer letitbit coz filesonic n wupload are one & same with same owner

    plz vote for letitbit guys

Thing is you see more and more of WUpload links popping up (thanks to their aggressive affiliate promotion lately). I guess that’s the reason you see votes for WUpload leading at the moment.

Shame… Depositfiles was a good host primarily for porn but the reason for dropping it seems fair.

Maby it’s just me but I saw many Uploading.com links lately, maybe a good replacement instead DepositFiles?

I’ve always wanted uploading.com support but I remember Dman saying it was unstable and difficult to implement because of that.

Hi i will vote for Wupload all the way nut my main concern is let say like this as i can see RPNET supporting bunch of file sharing host like GIGASIZE , ZSHARE and UPLOADBOX which they are useless and right now no one using them anymore or at least i never heard of them now my question is why don’t you Dear Admin HAMAZA drop those 3 file hosting and add LETITBIT and Uploading.com and vip-file hosting services instead of them . please let me know guys who agree with my idea please.
    thank you

    [Reply]

    Arif (4 comments) Reply:

yes, I agree …… nobody uses zshare, uploadbox n gigasize, it’d be better if you drop them and consider letitbit n vip-file

    TheShadowOne (13 comments) Reply:

I have to disagree with this. I think its a strength rather than a weakness that rpnet supports alien filehosts such as gigasize. You may not see a multitude of these links around but for regular downloaders like myself you find that on the odd occasion when you need to download something that isn’t readily available on multiple filehosts, support for hosts like gigasize comes in extremely useful.
