WE ARE GOING DOWN IN 12-18 HOURS!

Of course, for an OS reload/re-install.
Enough of monkeying around! Real news to come once we’re down… ok.. enough of the monkey business.
So, we’re all set with our preparations, and the server will be taken down for an OS Reload (OS Re-Install) in about 12-18 hours from now. We’ll then proceed to install the new EngineX webserver and other important stuff to get everything in order.
In short, we’re looking at a downtime of about 48 hours (at most).
Now.. I know most (if not all) of you are worried that like last time, we might destabilize for an entire week and things might get disrupted, etc. But, please, let me make a few things clear.
- To begin with, this time round, I (Hamza) will be the one supervising and installing all the necessary software on the server to get it to work. And being one of the founders, my only aim is to get the site back up and running ASAP! So rest assured, there will be NO mess ups this time.
- We have NOT hired any noob management company. We’re NOT switching data centers. As soon as the OS reload is complete, I’ll get to work and get the server up and online in about as little as 12 hours from the time of reload. 48 hours is a fail safe. We could be back up and running in as little as 24 hours.
- Once we’re back up with the new webserver, and file handling… we will be MUCH MORE faster, MUCH MORE stable, MUCH MORE reliable, and we’ll FINALLY get to work to fix ALL the pending issues. How’s that for a delayed Christmas gift to all of you? 
Soooooooo… wish me luck, everyone. And hope for the best. We’re taking a dive for a while. Will be back up 
And yeah, this blog will NOT be going down. It’ll be up and running just as it always has been

Alright, so I admit that the past few days have been kind of slow and not really as ‘efficient’ as me or Dman would like them to be. Why? Lot’s of issues and reasons, so I’ll get down to them. But, I’ll start out with updates
Merging Private/Public Userbase
What we’ve decided to do, is merge the private and public area in one. Makes management easier for us. And, the private users will be able to download from any server (public/private) while public users will be limited to public server ONLY. This ‘modification’ is basically a core modification, and could take a while. I’ll update everyone on it’s progress
Rapidshare Issues
Disabled rapidshare link generation 2 days back. Basically, for some alien reason, the RS API calls stop responding every once in a while. This disrupts the bandwidth calculation and in turn, freezes all RS downloads. Added to that, all new downloads go over an infinite loop never returning the link, and hanging the browser (meaning, you’re unable to use RP until you restart the browser). What we’ve figured out, to solve this, is to let an independent server (nothing major, a small VPS would do) calculate the RS bandwidth and then report it to the main servers. That said, all calculation and reporting is done on the VPS, but downloads go through the main server. This saves the overhead and hangs on the main server, yet makes everything efficient. The code for this in progress, so expect updates for it soon.
Premium Accounts Giveaway
I know I announced the giveaway of 3 Private Accounts to RP. But thanks to recent issues, we’ve not been able to do anything about them just yet. However, since we’re almost approaching our second milestone in a day or two (250,000 downloads and counting), I’ve increased the private giveaway to 5 accounts. AND, the giveaway will NOT be a lucky draw or randomized. It’ll be a treasure hunt. I’ll update everyone once we hit the milestone
300MB United Issues
I’ve personally had QUITE a few queries from people asking about our relation with 300MB United. I just want to clarify a few facts. We are simply affiliated with the 300MB United team. The members in that team are great friends (been friends for sometime) and we all consider ourselves as one united team. HOWEVER, the 300MB United Team does NOT OWN RP. RP is solely owned and administered by me and Dman. Similarly, me and Dman do NOT OWN 300MB UNITED TEAM. They are a separate team of dedicated HQ rippers
Supporting More File Hosts
In about a week or two (or maybe after Christmas), we’ll be adding FileFactor, zShare, Uploading, Uploaded.to, and Storage.to to our list of supported hosts. That basically means, more power and RP will become more awesome. So look forward to that too
Private Accounts
Me and Dman plan to launch private accounts very soon. Hopefully by Christmas. We’re still thinking on how to hand them out, though. One option is to sell them for a nominal monthly cost. The other is to sell them + for those who cannot afford to pay (for multiple reasons) can ‘earn’ them by posting in our forums. That’s still something we’ve not yet decided. So I’ll simply appreciate comments for that
I guess that’s just about it. Kinda busy these days with lots of simultaneous issues… so I’ll post updates as and when I feel they are necessitated
