I have to make this post a quick post, given the fact that I have to make a lot of adjustments to the network.
Soooo… unfortunate and sad as this is, it has to come to this.
PublicLeech’s History
Public Leech was initially PublicRP. Me and Dman had quite a fair few plans of expanding it and making it the revolutionary premium link generator. And we did have a unique set of objectives. One of them being the longevity of the public side of RP. We probably have failed in that regard (although temporarily).
Our another objective was to run a premium link generator that was user friendly. And to be honest, we succeeded real great in that regard. Everyone who used our service from start up until the break (I call this a break, and not a closure) is well aware of the fact that we prided ourselves in being an ad-free site (with the exception of advertisement for our own premium accounts).
Fact is… more than half the people who get in to the premium link generator scene, either put up advert upon advert and popup upon popup on their site. Or worse, they lock their entire site down with a crappy survey/CPA page. Where did the user friendliness go? Where’s the community sense? That is where we differed. While others set their site(s) up to make a quick buck, we did for the community that has made us what we are, today. And we plan to continue the legacy and pick back from where we’re temporarily leaving it.
Last month, when the hotfile scam/issues started showing up, we decided to make a couple changes. In the process, we decided to rename our generator to Public Leech. This was just my suggestion (and Dman’s too) as part of giving every site in our network (RP) a unique identity. Thus the change of the name.
Why is it closing down?
Public Leech runs on a $400/month dedicated server. Add to that the cost of the accounts (~$40) that we support at the moment. The only thing that kept Public Leech going was Dman’s part time job. But he’s moving back to India. And he won’t be having his job. That means, we won’t be having the funds to keep Public Leech up and running. I know you guys are probably thinking about Premium account sales, etc at this point. But to be honest, while we have been doing OK on the premium side, we don’t have enough funds to keep Public Leech alive for the time being. Besides, we’ve set aside a reserve for Premium, because we don’t intend to shut that down, of course.
So, the reason Public Leech is going down, is because Dman lost his job (temporarily) and it’ll be back up in due time.
When will it be back up?
I do not guarantee ANYTHING in this case. The best I would say is that in due time, we’ll bring it back. And it’ll be better than ever. Why? Because we hope to take a break from maintaining and paying for public, and improve and market Premium all the more. That way, by the time we’re ready to bring it back up, we’ll hopefully be making enough $$$ per month to put public back in action.
And of course, I hope Dman gets his job back soon. He’s in India, although temporarily. Once he gets back, he’ll have his job again. However, he does not know when. Although, hopefully soon (according to him).
Do we have any plans while Public Leech is closed?
Yes. We’ll concentrate on growing Premium. That should bring in a positive cash flow, and we’ll get Public Leech back up soon.
And yes, we’ll continue updating the blog.
Will Premium close down too?
NO! We do not have any intention to close down the premium side. It’s a service that manages to finance itself for now. So that is reason enough to keep it running, indefinitely.
Is there any way I can help?
While we appreciate everyone who wants to help us, at this point the best you could do is be patient. We promised on being the best. And we will be. Just give us the time we need.
Another way to help us, is to buy our premium account if you need it (and can afford it). It’s quite cheap, and we guarantee good speeds, premium support, no limits (except RS), and a great great experience. If you know someone who can afford our accounts and is looking to consolidate all file hosts in one small investment, minus the hassle of having to maintain 12 different accounts, refer them to us. We’ll be thankful to you. Because, that, is one of the ways you can truly help us grow and come back with a greater bang than ever before.
What was the other update you mentioned?
The update, in my opinion, is quite important. It should have it’s own blog post (and it will). We’ve officially launched the design competition. That’s the best we can do, as an apology for closing down Public Leech (temporarily). There will be 3 winners of the design competition. The winners will get 4 months of FREE access to Premium RP. Full speed downloads, no restrictions (except RS) for 4 months. I’m sure quite a few people would be interested. The details will be announced in a separate blog post in about an hour or two from now.
I don’t quite know how I feel, right now. Because, to be very honest, I am really passionate about Public Leech. Both me and Dman love it, and while we did fear it would come down to this (although temporarily) we did not quite imagine it would be this difficult.
That’s it for now, folks. I’ll keep this blog updated.
Cheers,
Hamza

I’m sorry to hear about Dman’s job. Hope he gets it back soon. I always wondered how much it cost for the public server to run. I bet a lot of people who use it have no idea of how much it costs you guys and how much time it takes up of your lives. That’s the reason I bought a premium in the first place, because I wanted to support you guys. And honestly the first time I used public I was surprised that I didn’t have to fill out surveys or get spammed with spyware/malware and ads like all of the other sites I have been to. I was getting pretty pissed at all of the other comments people were leaving saying the you guys only support premium now and that you guys could care less about public because they have no idea how much work you guys have put into public and especially all the work you guys put in to try to defeat hotfile.
I hope you guys start bringing in money from premium soon so you guys can start getting paid back for all of your hard work. But I was just wondering if you guys ever thought about accepting donations? I’m not sure how many people use your service but if you ask for one dollar a month in donations and there are at least 500 people donating, you guys would start to break even and Dman could start using his money for himself instead of the public servers!
[Reply]
Very sorry to hear that.. We’re behind you, D!
This has been one of the best generators I have seen.. I guess the only way to carry on with the public servers would have to be what elementfbl114 has said.. we can’t expect you guys to be paying for it all the time too..
But I guess that leaves those people without Paypal access to be helpless though..
I hope D gets his job soon regardless of the site though, a kind samaritan shouldn’t have such bad luck..

What’s the wrong in going back to India? It’s his homeland.

Yes. The reason is clearly described/mentioned in this post.
[Reply]
As i said earlier, RIP RP! Was good while it lasted, but with their focus only on the premium accounts, this was waiting to happen.
PS: Daman had replied to an earlier post of mine in which i said that their only focus was the premium downloader saying that the proof of that not being so is that public account is active. well, bingo, am i proved right or what?

Nope. You’re clearly *still* under the wrong assumption.
According to you, our focus is/was on premium which is what led to the downfall of Public.
This post, clearly mentions the fact that Dman’s job was what kept Public alive. And with that gone, we have to close it temporarily until we get enough from Premium to finance Public without having to depend on personal funds.
Think about it.. and you’ll know where you fell short on your conclusion.

Hey whoa – I’ve seen your posts and I really think you don’t understand how much money all of this costs. Would you pay out of your own pocket almost 500 dollars a month to keep this service running so others can use it for free? Probably not or you would already spend the 8 dollars a month for premium. But Dman spent the money he made for this service so that people can use it for free. Also you have to consider in all of the time the RP team had to put in to design and write the software/scripts for each file host, all of their time they spent on the hotfile scam (they came up with 2 or three work arounds, it’s not their fault that hotfile now has probably flagged the public servers IP and is watching it now).
Anyways you seem pretty ungrateful for a completely free service that didn’t contain any ads or spyware crap. Just be glad it was free and hope they can start making enough money from premium users so they can start breaking even on the public servers.

ageed, with Dman and elementfbl114… Woah is just an ungratefull bastard.. he probably just want to leech everything with considering the fact that the quality of service that RP has provided is of top class, just tell me 1 service which provide this kind of service without any ads or spyware.. thereisn’t is it.. if you know anything …share with us.. but you are so introvert that you wont even share that even if you know about such service .. shame on you man..

okki, there are plenty out there
I am not ungrateful or anything. Was only trying to tell them that this was bound to hsppen, while none of the other premium link gen sites have their basics right as well as RP, many of them have better revenue generating models that RP could emulate.
All I was saying was concentrating on premium service to run public simply wont work, they have to focus on the public service and find a model to generate enough money without charging the end users. i will be glad to help, but only through personal email. Cheers mates, as I said it REALLY WAS good while it lasted

Give me an example of one POPULAR link generator site that has a revenue generating model that actually works in the interest of the user. Or at least, is neutral to the point where it does not piss off or infect the end user.
Trust me, you’ll find none.
Our model is to run premium, get into a positive cash flow to the point where the funds can effectively pay off for public without us having to personally contribute a huge amount. And while that will take time in the short run, it’s going to actually sustain in the long run.
As for helping out, we appreciate everyone’s help. So if you’d like to throw a suggestion or anything at all for that matter, let me know using the ‘Contact Us’ button. Any messages sent through that form are delivered to my personal email. So rest assured, I guarantee privacy in that case.
I am so sad for this activities. Because this side is not to comepair to any on free side. It is best side to all off these this is only one side to help free download. So, I wish to come back fast & provide best service for us.
Thanks & Good Luck
