[RPNet Premium Only] Updates About Rapidshare Limits

We have had lots of requests over the past few weeks to change the Rapidshare limits to ones based on bandwidth, instead of number of links.

We listened to you, and Rapidshare limits are now bandwidth based. Instead of 40 links per day, you can now download 5GB per day.

You can generate as many links as you want. However, your quota will only be counted IF you actually START downloading the generated link.

This should make the download experience for everyone a lot more easier/better.

If you cannot see the new change in your ‘Show My Limits’ page, please log out of your account and log back in to update the information displayed there.

Cheers,
Hamza Y

So does the limit reset after 24 hrs of starting the download, or does it reset at a specific time? :) and seriously happy to see this! :)

Ok, that’s great, since i use everything but Rapidshare.
    Just 2 questions I have;

1- How long do all generated links last? (until they are deleted or become inactive?)

2- When I Click on ‘register’ in the forum I get this message “Your invitation is either not valid or has already been used.” Even though i have never tried to register here before.

    Any help?

In answer to your two questions:

    - The generated links will last for a maximum of 2 days. However, the actual time differs from host to host. Since on some hosts, the actual premium link can expire earlier (say, in a day). You can always regenerate the link from a special ‘Show Downloads’ area in your UserCP which lists your history. So that makes regenerating all the more easier. And we also suggest using IDM for your downloads, since it works the best with our service.

    - Forum registration is disabled temporarily. We’ll enable it asap, though. No worries on that. We just need to clean up and get the forums back in order.

So when will i be able to buy a premium account?

    Hamza (201 comments) Reply:

You can buy the premium account at any time. The forum registration and premium account purchase are not related.

You can go here – http://premium.rpnet.biz/premium.html and buy an account :)

So with the new changes at RapidShare, how will this affect you guys? Overall is it better or worse?

In one way it seems better having the option to create accounts with bigger download limits, but one the other hand, the only way to keep accounts going now is with cash payments (or maybe you already were with Traffic Share, but now that is gone as well). I’d try work it out but obviously I don’t know how things are run and what the associated costs are.

I’m currently typing a sizable blog post on the changes at Rapidshare.

It’s for the worse. Traffic share was quite convenient. However, with the new system, our costs of RS bandwidth are expected to at least double, if not more.

We’re still considering a lot of options. And we cannot ignore the fact that you’ll see a LOT LESS rapidshare links now for every and anything that you search. Of course, the transition to other filehosts will be gradual.

More info in my upcoming blog post.

Okay. Well, I don’t know what you are planning to do because of this, but from the beginning, since I have my own RS account, I was never really interested in using RapidPremium for RS and always thought it just bumped up the cost for me per month due to the cost of providing it for us. Now I would have originally said, it would be nice to offer accounts without RS for a cheaper price, but now that things have changed, maybe the only option is to drop RS from the current accounts and to offer it as an set extra $ amount per month. Obviously this is just a bare basic suggestion, and there are options like, leaving RS included on the current accounts until the expiry date, and any renewals or new accounts from today will not include it unless they choose to pay the extra for it.
