This one will be a quick and short blog post.
SharingMatrix (it’s always looked like a shady host to us, that’s why we never wanted to add support for it) has a hidden download limit of 10GB per day for premium users.
Considering that premium users are actually paying for the accounts, that limit is quite pathetic (and it also does not roll over). Overloaded servers were one problem. And as if that was not enough, we now have to deal with a limit that is not mentioned anywhere on their site.
Me and Dman have been discussing about this. And we’re leaning towards dropping support for SharingMatrix. We could, of course, buy a few more accounts to ‘bump’ the limit. But whatever we buy, will always run out and not be enough.
If we do end up dropping SharingMatrix support, we’ll replace it with another popular filehost. The polls for the new filehosts will go up this weekend. Keep an eye out for that.

You should first try imposing a limit, as with Rapidshare, of something like 1GB/500mb per user/per day. See how that goes, if you still surpass the daily limit imposed by FailMatrix, drop it then

With multi part files and bluray becoming common, I’m not sure if a limit would really work out. We’ve always prided ourselves in being one of the few linkgens with no download limits (with the exception of Rapidshare, which we clearly disclose). Doing the same for FailMatrix is deviating from that goal.
But, good idea, nevertheless. I’ll talk to Dman about it. See how it goes.

True about bluray becoming the norm, I myself won’t download a movie unless its at-least 720p, preferably 1080p. But lets be honest, FailMaxtrix can only really be found on porn sites, most warez sites have banned it

Exactly that. Porn uploaders is what keeps them afloat. But then again, RPNet is host to every type of downloader, so I guess FailMatrix was a popular addition. However, should it come round to dropping FailMatrix support, we’ll add an alternate host.
is true, most of warez sites are banned SM, and some porn sites are doing this also,

If I’m not mistaken, Uploaded.to and filefactory also have daily limits, do they?
I hope the support for fmatrix stay, because there are tons of links remoted for it now and fmatrix don’t delete links as quickly as the other hosts.

They do, but their limits are clearly defined on their premium pages. Which is why I consider FM to be a scam host.

Given the choice of adding barely useful new hosts, I’d rather use the money to increase RapidShare capacity. Maybe that can be a poll option.

We could do that too. Maybe on a case by case basis. In that, people who use RS predominantly, could be given a higher RS limit, while those who don’t can vote for the new hosts.

Yeah I tried a few FailMatrix links and it wasn’t able to process any of them. Then when I tried to get them directly from FailMatrix, it says the links are for Premium users only….I think the only reason people upload to the site is to make $.
This is what I keep getting (censored link):
Please enter a valid link (http://sharingmatrix.com/file/********)
No links entered/No links generated

Hi Hamza,
Awhile back, did RS not have had limits of 5 GB per day. Every now and then they introduce happy hours though.
I did not mention RS because I feel it has so many files because people have already uploaded to its server. But, things look pretty good for HF now. I don’t know why but SM is all over the place these days.
Dropping SM is not a big deal. The main point is WHAT Hosts to support. There are quite a few which seems unnecessary like megavideo, megashares, gigasize, uploadbox….. Only you know how many downloads are taking from these hosts. Of course, there are the other ones without which we cannnot do like MU, HF
So, take off four hosts from the far down side of the list and put a poll on the site for the new ones.
Well, this is what I feel …. my personal opinion..
thanks again for the great work !

I think Megashares, Megavideo and Uploadbox re quite good hosts.. Especially Megashares for 720p, 1080p downloads. Megavideo is for online watching.. I don’t think, RS needs extra BW. In few months, we won’ t find any links from RS, because of their policies. It can be a new file host. Lets see what Hamza has in his mind

well i use Megashares ALOT..
and I think megaupload = megavideo
