First, i am very shock to hear this case, may be the same as the other member. I think piracy is less plausible. This forum is anti-warez and porn.. so i think this is a clean forum..

Anyway i appreciate your decicion. As a suggestion, perhaps we can activate this blog, make RP forum alive again (maybe without RP download area).

Why not just add the private downloader to just LIMITED people and not telling ANYONE bout it . I agree with xikyu. We should make the RP forums alive again, only without the RP download area, so that RP is still alive only it doesn’t break any law.

Well, to be fair, THEY are the ones that are hosting the offensive material… THEY should remove it themselves. RP is a service which enables to get it easier, but they’re the ones that are providing it in the first place.

Any ideas like a petition? There’re some good defense points too. Like we are just simply providing a way to download RS files. It was not solely intended to be a warez downloader. Also we do not provide links for these downloads to the public.

A petition is unlikely to be effective or even advocated when it is to ‘continue an illegal service (or so they say)’

I agree with you that we’re only providing a service.. a commercial and a private service and not encouraging warez downloads. But there’s scant chances of them seeing the point in that!

Oh a very sad news for us all. But i m not sure about the so called authorities. Well there are many generators around. So how many they will stop. If they really want to stop promoting piracy or so then they should try to stop all the filehosters. I m not talking about only rapidshare there are thousands. That doesnt makes sense y those people are against RP.
I guess its time to reform a strong privacy policy. If rapidshare can contain thousand gigabytes of illegal contents then RP may contain 100 GB contains

yup I agree with you farmd. There are many generators in the world. But why only the RP to target them? I Think they do that because RP has high rating in google search. RP is no 1 in google search with keyword rapid premium.

As a suggestion, to continue this downloader area, maybe hamza can change downloader area become of a mailing list only.

Well… this is a complete shock to me.
But firstly we should make forums active again.
Best thing would be to let things cool down.
Shifting of domain would be useless if they start to track back again. There need to be a strong policy that would state that we don’t support piracy.

I think we all agree:
1. The forums should stay open, even if the downloading area doesn’t.
2. We’re all super shocked at this.

& some more:
1. if we obtain Rapidshare accs (I don’t know how you do it, but anw), and help members download, wouldn’t it be the same as people who own accounts and helping their friends download? I mean, we have these accounts, which I’m sure cost in some way, shouldn’t we be allowed to go whatever we do with them?

2. Rapidshare has an even bigger case of piracy here. They are making profit off the pirated goods they store on their servers by selling accounts to people to get access to them, which [the money] doesn’t go to the copyright holders as far as I know.

3. RapidPremium isn’t making monetary profit out of it. [and, okay, MAYBE the copyright holders aren't getting any money either, but that's not my point.]

Gosh, it’s hard to argue. It’s like, piracy with profit and possible piracy without profit is still piracy in the end.

Shocking news indeed. First of all i would like to know a bit more about these authorities. If I am not mistaken then hamza, you are located in pakistan. I did not think that pakistani authorities were really strict about piracy. they have bigger issues to worry about (terrorists). Whats more weird is that they have a problem with RP and not RapidW. Its better to be safe than sorry so get this legal mess sorted out first and then decide what to do with rp next. As far as the forum goes, you could take the approach that prize rebel(www.prizerebel.com) did. giving away free RP accounts. you could hold competitions and give away a free 3 day account to the winner. the competitions could be held on a regular basis. ofcourse you will still be giving away rs accounts and that could also be ‘promoting piracy’. the second problem is that only few people(the winners) and not all the members will access these accounts.

Or, you could have a mailing list of all the people that want access to rp services and e-mail them the account details.( ofcourse only the most trusted rp members could get on that list.
thats all i can think up now.

In the end, think of your self first. Providing a free rs service and having an active community is great and all but is definitely not worth risking your career and financial future if you get into legal trouble and have to pay up hefty fines.

P.S just giving my 2 cents and don’t mean to offend anyone.

hey hamza,

I thought about something. So they say you make people download pirate stuff. But there is officially NO pirate stuff on RS so they don’t have a good point in that mather. and if you want it to become more legal you can add a rule set for the download area. Like ‘Don’t download illegal copies of movies, apps, music, …’ so then you take the blame to us and they cant harm you or the server/forum. thats my idea in that mather.

And eum why is forum banned? because there we just have fun and help eachother so …?

rapidshare has the same basic defence from it. They have rules that it can only be used for legal stuff like things from a company. Like a meeting thats taped and then send it to there outland workers .

the problem is they cant check everything and cant delete what they cant open. there policy has been leveled up because of the same thing thats happening now to RP but they put up more rules and even more checkups.

I suggest we reopen the forums, but keep it invite only and don’t open the downloader area until everything blows over. That way, only trusted people will be let in, but I still think they will somehow track us back.

Think something like Demonoid where they have users by invite-only, and once in a while open public registration? Maybe a bad idea… RP isn’t big enough as it is.

omg…i was busy with some conference work in my college and so dint use rp or the forums for the past one week…when i logged in now i thought i ll find some interesting news about RP v3 or that it may have been launched already…
what a shocker!!!!!

wow! this comes as a shock to me. I was there when the forum come online. We should not let the forum go not matter what.

Suggestions:
We need to make the forum as a regular forum which does not have any associations with the downloader. The downloader concept needs to be changed. Like the way members get to download files from RP.

Strike your name from the development if you’re not working on it and just link to it off the site. Keep your forums with a discussion of the software. You’re allowed to discuss illegal things to an extent right?

Those fat corporates arent happy with the hundreds of millions they are making atm?!?! They should look at how much money you make, and how many people you help thanks to this wonderful service. As long as there is technology there will always be piracy, if you want to eleminate piracy you either 1) Destroy or limit who has access to technology, 2) Stop producing disks of any sort, or 3) Stop Entertaining.
Seriously they are just killing everyones joy, we have to up a replica of this site, keep it safe, keep it secret (EPICLULZ; Lord Of The Rings 1, Chapter 3, Gandalf to Frodo) and limit who has access, to this website.
